The exhibition “Exception”, held at Casa do Lago Cultural Center of University of Campinas, explored the persistence of the state of exception in Brazil, from the military dictatorship to the present day. The exhibition was structured around three sections: Military Exception, addressing the repression of the dictatorship; Renewed Exception, highlighting the continuity of state violence; and Structural Exception, denouncing racism and inequality as foundational pillars of Brazilian society. In dialogue with other exhibitions on view at the time, such as “AI-5 50 Years – It Still Hasn’t Ended” at Instituto Tomie Ohtake and “States of Emergency” at Paço das Artes, the exhibition featured works by Carmela Gross, Graziela Kunsch, Igor Vidor, Jaime Lauriano, Claudio Tozzi, Fábio Morais, Maurício Fridman, Maurício Nogueira Lima, and Dora Longo Bahia.
